Valentines Day Sucks

I don't like Valentines Day, that's all there is to it. I think the day sucks whether you're married, single, in a relationship or whatever you're status is. Chances are, if you get something for Valentines Day, it's not good enough because we all expect our significant other to go over and beyond what s/he knows what to do. And, if you don't get anything, the day sucks even more!

I've been with my husband a total of 5 years, married for 3 of those 5. We've had an alright Valentines Day each year but this year is by far the worse we've ever had. I work at night at a little restaurant in my town. I work about 4 nights a week for extra money and stay home during the day with JD. I have to work tonight, tomorrow night and Saturday night.

Well, yesterday before I went to work I stopped by CVS and got a card for Daniel and a small thing of chocolates with Woodstock (Snoopy's Friend) holding them. I spent less than $6 on this small gift. Daniel and I do not have the money right now to blow on ridiculous gifts so I figured it's the thought that counts, right? Guess what I got? Nothing! And he's already told me I'm not getting anything because he didn't have the money! WTH? I know that I shouldn't expect anything but guess what? I didn't get anything for Christmas either! He keeps pulling that BS about not having enough money! I mean, good grief! I'm not asking for diamond earrings, just a little I love you gift. But whatever! I just don't understand how someone can NOT get their spouse something for those holidays. Has he totally missed the whole SAVING MONEY bit? HELLO?

My birthday was January 5. The ONLY reason I got something from him for that day was because I bought it myself. He's never been like that before. Is it because we don't have enough money or is it because he's comfortable in our relationship that he knows I'll get over it? What should I do?

He called me today while he was a work and said, I love you the same even though I didn't get you anything. I didn't say anything rude or out of line but I wanted to. What is he? The most wonderful husband of all time because he said that? That because he justified himself everything is great and grand?

UGH! I'll get over this but I'm just venting!

We went through a very similar rough patch a few years ago, with me constantly yelling at him about the death of romance in our relationship. We just got way too comfortable with each other and it took me having a mini-nervous breakdown for the two of us to realize it.
Good luck (oh - and I found you through Cre*buzz....love your page!)
