I ate my first Pomegranate

As sad as it may seem I had never been introduced to a pomegranate until Sunday. I went to my mother-in-laws house and she had one cracked open and was just munching away on those red, juicy seed. I guess it's a seed. Well, I broke one away from the white membrane that keeps the seeds in place and I fell in love.

Days before I had watched Martha Stewart on her new show talking about pomegranates and how much she loved them. I was amazed. I knew I had to get my hands on one.

What is awesome is that JD loves them too. I love that he will eat anything.

I found a great website that is full of great recipes, trivia and other facts about pomegranates. Click here to check it out.

This is the recipe I want to try:

Pomegranate Yogurt Dip

1 large pomegranate
2 cups chilled plain yogurt
2 scallions, finely chopped
1/4 cup pomegranate juice
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
1/4 teaspoon salt
Fresh mint sprigs

Separate seeds from the
pomegranate.

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the yogurt, pomegranate juice, scallions, cilantro, and salt. Gently fold in all but 2 tablespoons of the pomegranate seeds. Place in serving bowl and garnish with mint and seeds. Chill for 30 minutes.

Makes 2 cups.

Doesn't that sound delicious!?

Hi.. I'm sure pomegranates are good and sweet, but I just can't get passed how they look! I'm weird like that: If it doesn't look half way appetizing then I won't eat it. For example avocados!... Anyway, maybe I can prepare a dessert with my eyes closed! Great blog... SAHMs UNITED!
